Xi Jinping’s RARE Public Appearance In Tibet; Blunt Message To Dalai Lama As China Tightens Control

Chinese President Xi Jinping made only his second visit to Tibet, praising local authorities for resisting separatism and urging political stability, ethnic unity and religious harmony. His arrival was marked by a mass rally of nearly 20,000 people, including military personnel, schoolchildren, and Tibetans in traditional dress beneath a towering portrait of Xi. The visit comes shortly after the Dalai Lama reiterated that his successor would be chosen by his office, not Beijing, sharpening the dispute over Tibet’s future. China, however, insists it alone has authority over the succession, underlining its long-standing grip on the Himalayan region.
