These countries stood out for their exceptional contributions to the global travel landscape, with Vietnam earning accolades for its growing tourism appeal, the Philippines recognized for its dynamic tourism board, and Australia continuing to solidify its position as a tourism powerhouse. Asia & Oceania’s Finest Shine at the 2025 World Travel Awards in Hong Kong

The World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025 Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony held in Hong Kong brought together the most influential figures and brands in the travel and tourism sectors, celebrating the region’s top-performing destinations, hotels, resorts, and service providers. The event, held in collaboration with Hong Kong International Airport and InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong, was a part of the WTA’s Grand Tour 2025—a global initiative to identify the world’s finest travel and tourism organizations.

The gala was a glittering celebration of excellence in the travel and hospitality industries, with a range of awards presented to remarkable achievers across Asia and Oceania. Vietnam, a country on the rise in tourism, was awarded the title of ‘Asia’s Leading Destination,’ reaffirming its increasing appeal to travelers worldwide. Alongside it, Hanoi earned the title of ‘Asia’s Leading City Destination,’ thanks to its rich cultural heritage and vibrant street life. Meanwhile, the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark claimed ‘Asia’s Leading Regional Cultural Destination,’ highlighting the country’s natural and cultural wonders.

The Philippines also made a mark at the ceremony, with the Philippines Tourism Board being named ‘Asia’s Leading Tourist Board,’ a testament to its continuous efforts in promoting its islands and diverse experiences to international visitors. Bali, Indonesia, known for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, was crowned ‘Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination,’ a reflection of the destination’s growing popularity for romantic getaways.

The award for ‘Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction’ went to teamLab Planets TOKYO, a groundbreaking, immersive art experience that merges technology and creativity in an innovative way. This accolade highlights the shifting trend in tourism toward unique and experiential attractions that engage visitors in a multisensory journey.

Australia also reinforced its dominance in the tourism world, claiming ‘Oceania’s Leading Destination,’ with a strong portfolio of natural beauty, cultural richness, and world-class infrastructure. Melbourne, a city renowned for its arts, culture, and cosmopolitan lifestyle, took home ‘Oceania’s Leading City Destination.’ Another notable win from Australia came in the form of ‘Oceania’s Leading Tourist Attraction,’ awarded to Wintjiri Wiru at Ayers Rock Resort in Uluṟu, which combines indigenous storytelling with cutting-edge technology to create a deeply immersive and educational experience.

In the hospitality sector, which is pivotal to the success of tourism in any region, several standout properties were recognized. The Oberoi in New Delhi, India, was voted ‘Asia’s Leading Hotel,’ praised for its luxurious amenities and exceptional service. Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort was honored as ‘Asia’s Leading Resort,’ while Discovery Primea in Manila secured ‘Asia’s Leading Business Hotel.’ Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, an iconic symbol of luxury and innovation, was crowned ‘Singapore’s Leading Hotel.’

On the brand front, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts was named ‘Asia’s Leading Luxury Hotel Brand 2025,’ a reflection of its continued dominance in the high-end hotel industry across the region. Meanwhile, Postcard Hotels & Resorts was recognized as ‘Asia’s Leading Boutique Hotel Brand,’ cementing its position as a premier choice for travelers seeking distinctive, boutique-style accommodations.

Pan Pacific Orchard in Singapore was honored as ‘Asia’s Leading Green Lifestyle Hotel,’ recognizing the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices, which is becoming an increasingly important factor for travelers. Vietravel, the prominent tour operator in Vietnam, was awarded ‘Asia’s Leading Tour Operator,’ showcasing the growing appeal of Vietnam’s tourism offerings.

Among the new entries, Japan stood out with double victories. Waldorf Astoria Osaka was named ‘Asia’s Leading New Hotel,’ and Rosewood Miyakojima was awarded ‘Asia’s Leading New Resort.’ InterContinental Auckland was recognized as ‘Oceania’s Leading New Hotel,’ signaling the growing sophistication of the region’s hospitality sector.

In aviation, AirAsia secured ‘Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline,’ continuing its dominance in providing affordable travel across the continent. Royal Brunei Airlines won the prestigious title of ‘Asia’s Leading Cabin Crew,’ acknowledging its exceptional service and customer care. Hong Kong International Airport was named ‘Asia’s Leading Airport,’ a well-deserved recognition for its world-class facilities, customer service, and continual innovation.

A special honor was awarded to Mrs. Paddy Tang Lui Wai Yu, Group Co-Managing Director at K. Wah Holdings and Managing Director of Stanford Hotels International. She was presented with the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Travel and Hospitality Industry’ award, recognizing her tireless leadership and invaluable contribution to the development and growth of tourism across Asia.
