For pet owners, the updates mean greater convenience, more choices, and a smoother journey when travelling with their furry friends

Akasa Air has announced several major changes to its ‘Pets on Akasa’ service, making it easier and more comfortable for passengers to travel with their pets. These updates reflect a growing demand from Indian pet owners who want their furry companions to travel with them.
The airline said the changes are designed to offer more flexibility, better comfort, and added perks for passengers travelling with pets.
The following are some of the key changes to the service
1.More pets allowed in the cabin
Passengers can now bring two pets in the cabin per flight. Earlier, only one pet was allowed. This is expected to help families or groups who want to bring more than one pet along on the same journey.
2.Higher weight limit
The maximum weight for pets travelling inside the cabin has been raised to 10 kg (including the carrier). This makes it possible for slightly bigger pets to travel with their owners, instead of only very small animals.
3.Longer validity for certificates
The health certificate needed for pets to fly is now valid for 15 days, giving pet owners more time and flexibility when planning trips. Previously, the certificate had to be renewed more frequently, which was inconvenient.
4.Easier last-minute bookings
Pet bookings can now be made up to 24 hours before departure. This shorter booking window makes it possible for travellers to make last-minute decisions to bring their pets along.
5.Complimentary perks for passengers with pets
- Pre-booked window seats for comfort.
- Priority check-in to save time.
- Priority baggage delivery on arrival, making the journey smoother.
6.Expanded service across India
The ‘Pets on Akasa’ service is now available on flights to 24 domestic cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This wider network means more pet owners can take advantage of the service across the country.
7.Partnership for animal welfare
Akasa Air has partnered with the Umeed for Animals Foundation to ensure that pets receive the best possible care while flying. The partnership aims to promote animal welfare standards and make air travel safer for pets.
Akasa Air said the changes underline its commitment to treating pets as part of the family. For many passengers, pets are more than just animals as they are companions who deserve the same comfort and care as their owners.
By allowing more pets per flight, raising weight limits, and offering extra services like priority check-in, Akasa is positioning itself as one of the most pet-friendly airlines in India.
Pet-friendly travel is a rising trend worldwide, and Indian airlines are beginning to adapt. With these new services, Akasa Air has taken the lead in offering a comprehensive and affordable pet travel programme.
For pet owners, the updates mean greater convenience, more choices, and a smoother journey when travelling with their furry friends.
