Tudor: ‘Juventus not at Club World Cup just to participate’

Igor Tudor warns Juventus are not at the Club World Cup ‘just to participate’ after landing in the United States of America.

The Bianconeri have been drawn in Group G, so will begin their tournament against Al-Ain on Thursday at 02.00 UK time in Washington DC, then face Wydad Casablanca on Sunday at 17.00 UK time in Philadelphia, before the showdown with Manchester City on June 26 at 20.00 UK time in Orlando.

“There is excitement because it is the first time for this event,” Tudor told DAZN.

“Juve always have the same ambition to win and we want to do it, with humility. We know that the best teams in the world are here, but we did not come here just to participate. Let that be clear.”

There had been some significant doubt over whether Tudor would be the coach of Juventus going into this competition, as the club also had talks with Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini.

However, he was signed to a new contract, having been brought in as effectively caretaker in March to replace sacked Thiago Motta.

“It was a long journey, now we need to adapt quickly to this new time zone, because we’ll be on the pitch on Wednesday,” added the coach.

Juventus have their training camp for the Club World Cup in two cities, seeing as their three group matches are in three different venues.

They’ll be based at the Greenbriar Sports Training Centre in West Virginia, and at Champions Gate in Orlando, Florida.
