Trump wants TikTok algorithm ‘100% MAGA’ after getting Xi Jinping’s blessing over deal

When asked if he’d like to see the app’s algorithm suggest more Maga-related content, he quipped: “I always like Maga-related. If I could, I’d make it 100% Maga-related.”

Donald Trump said he would make TikTok content “100% Maga if he could” after signing an executive order to allow the video sharing app to continue operating in the US. The Orange Manbaby said China’s President Xi approved a deal to put the app into US ownership.

When asked if he’d like to see the app’s algorithm suggest more Maga-related content, he quipped: “I always like Maga-related. If I could, I’d make it 100% Maga-related. If I could make it 100% Maga, I would. But it’s not going to work out that way unfortunately.”

He made the comments after signing a deal which would see TikTok’s US operations sold to a group of American firms after concerns were raised about who has access to TikTok’s data, and the influence the app has over US users.

He added: “Everyone’s going to be treated fairly. Every group, every philosophy, every policy will be treated very fairly.”

Trump said a group of “sophisticated” individuals who “love the country and have made a lot of money in the country” will be involved in the, including Dell computers CEO Michael Dell and media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

He said: “We have probably four or five absolutely world class investors that love the country and have made a lot of money in the country and many of them are in a somewhat-related business so it works out pretty well.”

Politicians in the US have previously raised concerns about TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company Bytedance, over national security issues and former president Joe Biden even signed legislation last year requiring it to hand over control of its US operations or face a ban.

Trump himself had been critical of the social media network, but since changed his mind and credited TikTok for boosting young voter support in his 2024 election win.

And he has repeatedly signed orders that have allowed TikTok to keep operating in the US as his administration worked to reach an agreement for the sale of the social media company.

Around 43% of US adults under the age of 30 say they regularly get news from TikTok, higher than any other social media app including YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, according to a study published on Thursday.

Much is still unknown about how the deal will work, but Vice President JD Vance said it ensures “American investors will control the algorithm” that determines the content seen on the app and said more information will be revealed in the coming weeks.
