A tourist from Malaysia was arrested at Hong Kong’s The Peak Tower after a water flask fell from his backpack and struck a visitor walking below.

Police said they received a report at 12:16 p.m. on Wednesday that a woman, from mainland China, had been hit on the head by an unknown object near The Peak Tower, a popular tourist attraction in Hong Kong, the South China Morning Post reported.

According to authorities, the man had placed his backpack on a railing approximately 1.2 meters high while sightseeing, Dimsum Daily reported.

A 10-inch-tall water flask slipped out of a side pocket and fell from the tower’s outdoor viewing area.

The flask struck the female tourist in her 40s, prompting her to seek medical attention and notify the authorities.

She was later taken to a nearby hospital for examination.

The man was arrested on suspicion of allowing an object to fall from a height.

He is currently in discussions with the injured woman regarding compensation.
