We may be one step closer to finally closing the book on the endlessly-postponed TikTok ban. The Information is reporting that TikTok is working on a U.S. version of the app. Called M2, the new app is being eyed for a September release ahead of a sale to U.S. owners.

TikTok’s slow march to the App Store graveyard began last year, when Congress approved its ban or sale to non-Chinese interests. Biden signed the ban into law, but Trump stayed the ban right before being sworn into office. You know, when technically he didn’t have the power to do so? If you’ll recall, it was a Truth Social post about an executive order that set the un-banning into motion and not the executive order itself. Trump delayed the ban for 75 days, then for another 90 days on June 19. The ban is set to go into effect September 17, and M2 will reportedly go live September 5.

The news comes after Trump told Fox News some “very wealthy people” were set to buy TikTok. Trump said he’d reveal the names in two weeks, and that he was confident Chinese President Xi Jinping would approve the sale. But, ya know, that guy says a lot of things.
