Anna Wintour is saying goodbye to Vogue!
In a shocking move, the renowned fashion and media executive is stepping down from her role as editor-in-chief of American Vogue.

After 37 years serving as the editor-in-chief of the renowned fashion publication, Vogue is now seeking a replacement for Wintour.
The media powerhouse reportedly announced her resignation on Wednesday, June 25, during a morning staff meeting.
Wintour will, however, remain as the Global Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director at Vogue. She will continue to oversee the subsidiary brands, including AD, Glamour, Vanity Fair, GQ, and more, on a global level.
Per WWD, the new opening for an editor-in-chief is part of an ongoing editorial restructuring at Condé Nast. As part of its plan to unify the editorial team worldwide, every market will have a head of editorial content led by a global editorial director.
With the weight of the 75-year-old’s shoulder, she will take on a more supportive role, in addition to leading all titles at Condé Nast, except for The New Yorker.

The news of Wintour stepping down has sent the Internet into a frenzy, with many lamenting the change after almost four decades.
“It don’t even seem right, when you see Vogue, you see Anna Wintour,” one fan complained. while another wrote, “This is like the 9/11 of fashion.”
A similar comment read, “Anna Wintour stepping down in pop terms means the Fashion version of Beyoncé quitting music.” A fourth fan penned, “Aw, honey, the end of an era! Can’t wait to see what’s next, darling.”
Others, however, supported the change of hands, explaining that it was time for Wintour to leave.
“It was time tbh. The US Vogue covers haven’t been good in a while,” this user argued.
A rather harsh commentary read, “White mediocrity allowed her to be the face of fashion innovation while other Vogue magazines across the country soared past her.”

Although the news caught the world by storm, reports indicate that there were signs Wintour was going to leave her role as editor-in-chief.
According to Page Six, this announcement comes shortly after Mark Guiducci was named the first-ever global editorial director of Vanity Fair. Guiducci was formerly the creative editorial director of Vogue, a role he had served in since 2020.
The appointment was made possible by none other than Wintour, who, sources claimed, handpicked Guiducci. Unfortunately, the decision wasn’t supported by Condé Nast CEO, Roger Lynch.
“Anna steamrolled him. He wasn’t in the meeting when she announced [Mark] as the new editor. Everyone was sad. It looked like a funeral.”
An insider noted that the Met Gala chairperson went “rogue” with the appointment, ruffling feathers at the upper level.

Wintour stepped in as the editor-in-chief of American Vogue in 1988, succeeding Grace Mirabella. Her appointment changed the tides of publication, with her first cover of model Michaela Bercu marking a historic milestone.
In it, Bercu, who was pregnant, donned a $50 pair of jeans with a $10,000 Christian Lacroix sweater in a fun and relaxed shot by Peter Lindbergh. It was the first time denim was on the cover of Vogue.
The England native is also credited with ushering in the era of celebrities on magazine covers. Speaking about her debut cover in 2012, which she described as a “religious statement,” Wintour said:
“It was so unlike the studied and elegant close-ups that were typical of Vogue’s covers back then, with tons of makeup and major jewelry. This one broke all the rules.”

Wintour’s resignation comes a month after the 2025 Met Gala was held, and some of her A-list guests broke the rules.
As The Blast reported, stars like Megan Thee Stallion defied Wintour’s strict no-phones and no-social media policy. The rapper acknowledged her disobedience in an Instagram clip where she gave glimpses of the lavish appetizers at the fundraising gala.
“I snuck my phone in,” Thee Stallion revealed in the clip before adding, “We are doing it [anyway].”
Other stars, such as Tyla and Questlove, were also on the offenders’ lists., and it is unsure what fate would befall them for invoking Wintour’s wrath.
