We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us about a missing person Wikipedia page that was so horrifying they couldn’t stop thinking about it. Here are their chilling responses:

.The Disappearance of Laureen Rahn — “In April 1980, a 14-year-old girl seemingly left her apartment in the company of someone she knew while her friend was sleeping in her bed. It seems that someone went to the trouble of nearly unscrewing all the light bulbs in the building so it would remain dark, suggesting some sinister intentions. In the years after Laureen’s disappearance, her mother got calls billed to her number from Southern California, where she had no friends or relatives. Some of those calls were to child assistance hotlines; another was traced to a motel known to be used for making what we now call CSAM. She’s still missing.”

.The Disappearance of Asha Degree — “She was nine years old, and on Feb. 14, 2000, she left her family home in the middle of the night. One person saw her and turned their car around to see if she was okay, and she ran away from them into a wooded area. I really wonder what happened that night. She would be 35 if she’s still alive.”

.The Disappearance of Virginia Carpenter — “This was a 1948 American missing persons case in Texarkana, Texas. Virginia vanished on June 1, 1948, after arriving in Denton to attend Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman’s University). She was last seen by a taxi driver at 9:30 p.m., and despite numerous reported sightings over the years, none have been confirmed. The case remains unsolved, with various theories including abduction, murder, and amnesia, but no conclusive evidence has ever been found.”

.The Disappearance of Johnny Gosch — “He disappeared during his morning paper route in 1982, and then his mother claimed that he visited her with an unidentified man 15 years later…WHERE IS HE?!?!”

.The Disappearance of Ben McDaniel — “He was a 30-year-old diver from Memphis, Tennessee, who disappeared on August 18, 2010, while exploring the Vortex Spring cave system in Florida. Despite extensive searches by experienced divers and the use of specialized equipment, no trace of McDaniel has been found, leading to various theories about his fate, including accidental drowning, foul play, or intentional disappearance.”

.The Disappearance of Emma Fillipoff — “Emma Fillipoff’s disappearance sent me down a rabbit hole for months. Lots of drama and red flags surrounding her story — she disappeared outside of the Empress Hotel in in Victoria, BC after being seen talking to the police. Her Wiki page will give you the chills and if you’re into documentaries, there’s an episode about her disappearance on the Fifth Estate’s YouTube channel. If podcasts are more your thing, almost every true crime channel has covered her. I feel so bad for her family, they’re still actively looking for her.”

.The Disappearance of Amy Lynn Bradley — “She disappeared from a family vacation aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas in the early morning hours of March 24, 1998. She has never been heard from since. I think about her often and hope one day she will come home to her family.”

.The Disappearance of Dulce Maria Alavez — “Dulce is a 5-year-old girl who disappeared while playing with her brother in a New Jersey park in 2019. The most heartbreaking part is that her mom was only 19, making her 14 when she had Dulce and likely 13 when she got pregnant. Her mom was just a child herself.”

.The Disappearance of Maura Murray — “Maura was a 21-year-old nursing student who got into a car accident in upstate New Hampshire. The strange thing was, prior to disappearing, she’d told professors that she would be taking a week off due to a death in the family. However, her family later told authorities that there had been no death. Her case probably bothers me the most because we are close in age, and she reminds me a lot of how my life was in 2004 when she went missing. Young and still a bit rebellious, but trying to make it through nursing school. I could have easily ended up as Maura did.”

.The Disappearance of Anthonette Cayedito — “She’s a nine-year-old who was last seen in April 1986 in Gallup, New Mexico. Hers is a sad story; her mother was an addict, and Anthonette basically became a mother to her younger siblings AT THE AGE OF 6!!! Then, on the night she disappeared, her mom left out some key details that are only now coming to light. So I’m not so much creeped out as much as angry that society basically stood back and let this happen.”

.The Disappearance of Lars Mittank — “He was a German backpacker who went missing in Bulgaria in 2014. In the days leading up to his disappearance, he had been acting increasingly erratic. Then, on the day he was scheduled to fly home, airport security cameras captured him running from the airport, climbing a fence, and fleeing into the woods.”

.The Disappearance of Brandon Swanson — “If I remember correctly he went out at night and his car broke down in the middle of nowhere so he called his dad to come and find him. Eventually, during the call he yelled out, ‘Oh shit!’ and that was the last time anyone ever heard from him.”

.The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi — “She was a citizen of the Vatican who had close ties to the Pope. She disappeared at the age of 15 after a music lesson. Her story involves Avon, a man who tried to assassinate the Pope, and even sex scandal theories. Her parents received a mysterious tip hinting that she may have been buried near the tombs of two German princesses inside Vatican City, but neither she nor the princesses were found when they dug up the graves.”

.The Disappearance of Susan Powell — “There is a podcast titled Cold that goes into further detail about her story but man this one tore me up. She goes missing, husband acts like he doesn’t really care, her father-in-law had admitted to being in love with her (although she wasn’t), cops finally start gaining some evidence to prove husband did it, he kills himself and their two boys a few days before a polygraph test. Been missing 10 years and her body has never been found because they think he dumped her in a UT mine. Broke my heart.”

.The Disappearance of Steven Koecher, a 30-year-old from Amarillo, Texas, who inexplicably disappeared in Henderson, Nevada, on Dec. 13, 2009. Koecher was last seen on a home security camera after parking his car in a (seemingly) random retirement community in Henderson. In the footage, he’s seen returning back to the vehicle, getting something from it, and then walking away again. There was some activity shown on his cellphone over the next two days, but he was not seen again. There have been a few theories over the years as to what happened to Koecher, but the case remains unsolved.”

.The Disappearance of Jennifer Kesse — “She’s been missing since 2006 and not long after she disappeared, her car was discovered about a mile from her home. This one always haunts me, especially how the surveillance video picture captured the face of the person who mysteriously parked her car at just the right moment so he would still be hidden.”

.The Disappearance of Rebecca Coriam — “She was a crewmember of the cruise ship Disney Wonder who missed the start of her shift one morning in March 2011 and couldn’t be found in her room or anywhere else on the ship. Investigators found CCTV footage of her early that morning talking on an internal ship phone in a crew area and she apparently was acting ’emotionally distraught.’ This was the last record of her presence aboard the ship, and her body has not been found. Although the ship and nearby waters were searched, and various authorities investigated the case, it remains unsolved whether Rebecca fell overboard, was thrown over, or if some other kind of foul play was involved.”

.The Disappearance of Heather Elvis — “No one ever talks about her or her disappearance. She went missing in 2013 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and a couple was recently charged with her kidnapping, but she’s still never been found. That poor family will never get closure.”

.The Disappearance of Brittanee Drexel — “This one always stuck with me as someone who used to walk around Myrtle Beach as a teenager, alone, and we were the same age. She was just leaving her hotel and disappeared, years later a prison inmate had told authorities that Drexel had been abducted and killed, but it still hasn’t been solved.”

.The Disappearance of Andrew Gosden — “Fourteen-year-old Gosden was last seen on CCTV leaving King’s Cross station in London on Sept. 14, 2007, after taking out £200 from his bank account and buying a one-way ticket from his hometown of Doncaster to London. No one knows why Gosden traveled to London that day. There have been numerous age-progression photos released over the years, a few dead-end leads, and even arrests of suspects as recent as December 2021, who turned out to not be involved in Gosden’s disappearance. It’s a sad mystery.”

.Finally, The Disappearance of Sneha Anne Philip — “She was an ER doctor in New York, who was last seen on Sept. 10, 2001, by a department store security camera near her home in Lower Manhattan. She didn’t return home that night or by the time her husband, Dr. Ron Lieberman, left for work on the morning of September 11. Despite searches by both the NYPD and a private investigator hired by her family, her or her remains have never been found. Because of her proximity to the World Trade Center and the fact she had the day off work and was a doctor, her family believes that Philip died on 9/11.”
