Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 official will power Motorola Edge 50 Pro , Week 12 in review

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is official and will power the flagship killers of 2024. The 8s Gen 3 offers a selection of premium Snapdragon features without costing as much as the premier 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 chips. The 8s Gen 3 is a 4nm chip with a Cortex-X4 prime core at 3.0GHz, four performance cores at 2.8GHz and three efficiency cores at 2.0GHz. It supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM (up to 4,200MHz) and UFS 4.0 storage.

For connectivity, it does USB 3.1 Gen 2 over USB-C. Generative AI is at the forefront as new applications have gained a lot of popularity but also revealed new issues. The 8s chip can run the most popular models like Llama 2, Baichuan-7B, and Gemini Nano (Pixel 8 owners recently found out their phones can’t run Gemini Nano – that is one of the new issues we mentioned). Models with up to 10 billion parameters are supported. The s-model is not as fast as the 8 Gen 3 tasks, but it stands out from the older 8 Gen 2 with its on-device AI support.

One of the first phones to have the new chip is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro (or the Edge+ 2024 in the States). It will have a 6.7” screen with Full HD+ resolution and 165 Hz refresh rate, 12 GB RAM, and up to 512 GB storage. It’s confirmed to arrive on April 3.

We put the Galaxy S24 Ultra against the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Moving to the iPhone 16 series. All four iPhone 16 models will feature thinner bezels. Apple reportedly has found a way to shrink the bezels and all display suppliers were able to adopt the technology. Apple will increase the screen sizes to 6.27” and 6.85”, up from 6.1” and 6.7”, making the phones larger, so cutting down the bezels allows for the jump in size to be smaller than it could’ve been.

Apple also put out a video, explaining how the base 128GB on the iPhone 15 is “lots of storage for lots of photos”. You should just watch the video. And see you in a week!
