Slot Drops Liverpool Star, Opens Door for Transfer

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has left one player out of his squad for the Community Shield amid transfer interest from a fellow Premier League club.

The Reds take on FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Wembley in the annual season curtain-raiser.

The match gives Slot the opportunity to assess all four of his new signings on a competitive stage.

Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have all been handed starts at Wembley, with Virgil van Dijk captaining the side.

Kerkez has been preferred ahead of vice-captain Andy Robertson at left-back, with the Scot named on the bench.

That decision appears to have come at the cost of Kostas Tsimikas, who has missed out on the squad entirely.

The Greece international is now effectively Liverpool’s third-choice left-back, and according to The Times’ Paul Joyce, he is likely to leave Anfield in the near future.

Joyce claims that Nottingham Forest made an enquiry about Tsimikas earlier in the summer, with interest elsewhere from both clubs in the Premier League and in Europe.

It is added that the Reds would only sanction a permanent exit for the left-back, indicating that he may well have played his last game for Liverpool.

Will Tsimikas leave Liverpool?

Tsimikas, 29, signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2020 and has made 115 appearances in all competitions for the club.

It was anticipated by fans that, should the Reds sign a new left-back this summer, the Greek would be the one to make way.

But Tsimikas appeared to indicate that he did not expect to leave Anfield in one of his recent Instagram posts.

After Liverpool’s 3-1 pre-season friendly victory over Preston North End last month, he posted to Instagram: “Episode 1 Season 6.”

Whether he lines up for or against Liverpool this season now remains to be seen.
