Scott McTominay Linked With Stunning Premier League Move as Napoli Issue Emerges

Scott McTominay has been linked with a return to the Premier League after an issue has emerged following his successful move to Napoli.

The 28-year-old midfielder left Manchester United last summer after a deal worth £25.7m was agreed for the Scotland international to move to the Serie A side.

McTominay scored 29 goals in 255 appearances for United, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup with his boyhood club.

His move to Napoli could not have gone much better after scoring 13 goals in 36 games last season for Gli Azzurri and inspiring them to winning the Scudetto.

Such was McTominay’s season that he was nominated for the Ballon d’Or and finished 18th overall, in between Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Joao Neves.

McTominay has scored four times in 10 games so far this campaign for Antonio Conte’s side, with his latest goal being the second goal in Napoli’s 3-1 win over Inter Milan last night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Kevin De Bruyne put Napoli ahead from the penalty spot shortly after the half-hour mark, while McTominay doubled the hosts’ lead after the break.

Hakan Calhanoglu halved the deficit for the visitors with a penalty just before the hour mark.

But Frank Anguissa netted Napoli’s third shortly afterwards to restore their two-goal advantage and seal victory.

Napoli sit top of the Serie A table by a point ahead of second placed AC Milan.

Though McTominay – who has 13 goals in 65 caps for Scotland – is living in an incredible city and is adored by the Neapolitans for his contributions on the pitch, it has now been reported an issue has emerged which has linked him with a potential return to the Premier League.

According to The Sun, a source has told the newspaper that there are struggles for McTominay with certain aspects of life off the pitch in Naples, particularly with passionate fans making it difficult to live a normal life away from football and even going so far as describing the attention as ‘suffocating’.

The report claims that McTominay could therefore be set for a ‘sensational return’ to the English top flight, though no clubs in particular are mentioned.

The source said: “Scott loves elements of Italian life and had a wonderful first season. But the passion of the fans can be a blessing but also make things difficult.

“He is treated as a god over there but it means he finds it difficult to do simple things when he’s not training. The attention can be suffocating.”
