Lai Suen, a veteran actress best known for her role in one of Hong Kong’s longest-running television dramas, has died at the age of 93.
Her niece, Gigi Lai Chi, also an actress who starred in multiple TVB dramas, posted on social media on Sunday. She shared black-and-white photos of her aunt over the years, as well as one of them together.
“Your smile and warmth will forever remain in our hearts. We will miss you always,” she wrote.
Lai Suen’s family confirmed on Sunday that she died in the early hours of Thursday.
Lai appeared in over 70 productions during her career, which spanned half a century. She was best known for her role as Yuen Man-kuen in the famous TVB drama A Kindred Spirit.
She acted alongside fellow veteran actors such as Louise Lee Si-kei, Nancy Sit Ka-yin and Lau Dan in the show, which centres on a family running a barbecue pork (char siu) restaurant in Happy Valley.
The drama, which aired from May 1995 to November 1999, has over 1,100 episodes and is one of the longest-running drama series in the history of Hong Kong television.
