Premier League President Condemns Passport Practice, Launches Probe

And we also heard from the President of the Premier League of Belize, Ian Haylock, who is against players surrendering their travel documents to any executive members of a football club. In fact, Haylock frowned upon the idea, while confirming that the league is exploring all angles of the allegations as it investigates the matters.

Paul Lopez

“Should a manager, an executive member of a club request the travel documents of any player?”

Ian Haylock, President, Premier League of Belize

“Under no circumstances. I think the law is clear. There is nowhere that any representative for any club should retain and hold the documents or passport for any player or any person whatsoever. I believe if that manager or owner of the respective club needs to go to immigration to seek any service, he should also take that player with him to immigration so that whatever request is being made to immigration that both the player and himself are there would seek whatever request he or she needs to make. So I am saying categorically, no players should be able to hand over their travel document to any owner or manger for any period of time.”

Paul Lopez

“How does the league view this entire thing and how do you move forward from this.”

Ian Haylock

“There are certain allegations made. I believe you have spoken with Mister Moss. He has responded to those allegations, but we are not only taking Mr. Moss responded. But the league and the federation are in the process of getting an investigation concluded and from that we will know where we stand.”
