Premier League club enter race for Barcelona defender who will cost €12 million

Following a breakthrough campaign with the FC Barcelona first-team setup, Gerard Martin seems to be attracting admirers from the Premier League.

Earlier this month, reports emerged claiming that Wolverhampton Wanderers had shown an interest in signing the Spanish left-back – who is currently on duty with the U-21 national team at the UEFA U-21 European Championships.

Now, it appears that Wolves are set to face stiff competition in the race to sign the 23-year-old from another English outfit.

Bournemouth want Gerard Martin

Indeed, according to SPORT, Bournemouth have now joined Wolves in the race for Gerard Martin, with the Barcelona player’s profile fitting into the plans of manager Andoni Iraola.

Wolves are targeting the Barça youngster as a replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri who recently joined Manchester City.

Martin fits their criteria, and the club has already reached out to gauge the conditions of a possible deal. Relations between Wolves and Barça remain strong, and Jorge Mendes, who has a major influence at the English club, could facilitate negotiations.

As for Bournemouth, they are poised to lose their left-back Milos Kerkez, who is set to secure a move to Liverpool in a deal worth over €40 million. They are actively scanning the market for a replacement, and Martin has made their shortlist.

Notably, Bournemouth completed a deal with Barcelona last summer for Julian Araujo, paying €10 million for the Mexican full-back. The sale of Martin could command a higher fee.

Barcelona open to sale for €12 million

Indeed, Barcelona are open to offers starting at €12 million – a figure that would allow the club to reinvest in a replacement.

In fact, the La Liga champions are already searching for a replacement and the most popular option is former La Masia ace Alejandro Grimaldo, who has a clause allowing him to return to Spain this summer for an affordable fee, although no decision has been made.

However, Martin himself would like to stay at least one more year to fight for his place at Barça after earning a prominent role in Hansi Flick’s team.
