Police respond to plane crash in Bath Township

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Multiple agencies are responding to the scene of a plane crash in Bath Township, according to Michigan State Police. Officers have set up a large perimeter in the area of Clark Road and Upton Road, blocking off roads in the area.

6 News on the scene saw heavy smoke and fire in the area of what appears to be the crash site, located in a wooded area.

A large first responder presence was also seen in the area, including a helicopter flying around near the scene, fire engines, and at least one ambulance.

Police on the scene tell 6 News they cannot release any additional information at this time.

A post from Bath Township Police shortly before 6:30 p.m. asked the public to avoid the area of Peacock Road and Clark Road, near the scene.

At this time, 6 News has not confirmed the type of plane that crashed, how the crash occurred, or if there were any injuries.

A spokesperson with the Capital Region International Airport tells 6 News the incident will not affect departures or arrivals from the airport.
