On Monday, India’s youngest airline, Akasa Air, announced some key changes to its ‘Pets on Akasa’ service. As per a report by The Free Press Journal, earlier, the airline only allowed one pet inside the cabin. Now, passengers can fly with two pets! The news has brought relief to pet parents who have more than one furry friend at home.

But wait, that’s not all. Another change has been made to the booking window. Pet bookings can now be made just 24 hours before departure, reduced from the earlier 48-hour requirement. This change will give travellers more flexibility while planning trips with their pets.

Over 8,500 Pets Flown Since Launch

You would also like to know that this unique pet service was first launched in November 2022 and has received an overwhelmingly positive response. In less than three years, Akasa Air has flown more than 8,500 pets. The airline has also made several policy enhancements in May 2024. It increased the permissible weight for pets in the cabin to 10 kg (including the container) and extended the validity of pet travel certificates to 15 days.

Akasa Air has introduced several benefits under its pet-friendly service. Passengers travelling with pets get a pre-booked window seat, priority check-in, baggage delivery, and early boarding. The airline has also invested in research and specialised training for its customer care, airport staff, and in-flight teams to maintain high standards of care, safety, and comfort for pets.

Additionally, this pet-friendly Indian airline has partnered with Umeed for Animals Foundation, a Gurgaon-based non-profit dedicated to animal rescue and rehabilitation. The partnership focuses on adopting best practices to ensure pet safety and comfort during air travel.

The service is currently available across 24 domestic cities, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Delhi, Guwahati, Agartala, Pune, Lucknow, Goa, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Bagdogra, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Sri Vijaya Puram, Ayodhya, Gwalior, Srinagar, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Darbhanga, and Kozhikode.
