Napoli have officially signed defender Luca Marianucci from Empoli, with the cost of the operation set at €9m.

As Football Italia had already reported, the medical tests were postponed to Tuesday this week after the clubs struck an agreement.

He passed those with flying colours and, as is tradition, President Aurelio De Laurentiis made the announcement first via his social media.

‘Welcome Luca!’ was his post on X, formerly known as Twitter, before the formal statement on the club website.

Marianucci turns 21 next month and is a product of the Empoli youth academy who worked his way up the ranks.

He made 24 competitive appearances this season, contributing two assists from central defence, but was unable to prevent Empoli’s relegation to Serie B.

It is believed the cost of this transfer for Napoli will be circa €9m, going to bolster the squad options for the reigning Champions of Italy.

He is the second signing of the summer for the Partenopei, who also announced Kevin De Bruyne as a free agent from Manchester City.
