Langkawi’s skies got busier this week with the island’s first-ever direct charter service from Hong Kong. The inaugural Greater Bay Airlines flight landed at Langkawi International Airport on August 18, 2025, with 165 passengers ready to explore the island’s leisure scene.

You Wings Holidays Sdn Bhd is coordinating this new route as part of a wider push to attract visitors from Hong Kong. The next chartered flight from Hong Kong is scheduled for August 22, 2025.

“We are confident that these charter flights will attract more visitors to Langkawi, especially during the shoulder seasons. This will help boost occupancy rates and generate additional business for our member hotels and resorts,” explained Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Kedah/Perlis Chapter, Eugene Das, as reported by Penang Hyperlocal.

According to AeroRoutes, a Boeing 737-800 will operate the route every four to five days until October 24, 2025, based on Hong Kong departures. Flight HB8235 is scheduled to depart from Hong Kong at 2:10 pm, arriving in Palau International Airport (ROR) at 7:30 pm. The return service, HB8236, departs ROR at 8:30 pm and lands in Hong Kong at 11:25 pm. Hong Kong Airlines is also running charter services on the same route using Airbus A320 aircraft, scheduled every four to five days.

The link with Hong Kong is a milestone for Langkawi’s tourism sector, which has already expanded its international reach with daily nonstop flights from Bengaluru operated by IndiGo Airlines and seasonal charters from Poland via LOT Polish Airlines.
