Get ready for a huge cultural celebration! Everyone can enjoy the tastes, sights, and sounds of Hong Kong with the Mississauga Hong Kong Festival, coming soon for the first time ever.
The new major festival is completely free to attend, and will take place on Labour Day weekend from Saturday, Aug. 30 to Monday, Sept. 1 at Paramount Fine Foods Centre Sportsplex in Mississauga.
The event is a vibrant celebration of Hong Kong’s culture: visitors can try delicious and authentic street food from a variety of food trucks, enjoy live music and entertainment, and even watch the World Kong Cup, an intense soccer tournament with talented players flying in from all over Canada, the United States, Hong Kong and the UK.
There will be no shortage of top vendors offering up incredible flavours. Indulge your taste buds with treats from Daan Go Cake Lab by MasterChef Canada’s Christopher Siu, pineapple buns and more Hong Kong delights from Papa John Bakery, authentic eats from Fancy Kitchen, HK Goodies, Hero Kitchen, and much more.
There’s something for all foodies here, from Hong Kong-style street food to Japanese-style tacos, spicy Hakka momos, and tons of mouthwatering dishes from local and international vendors. Free hotdogs and drinks will also be available while supplies last!
For entertainment, check out the on-stage performances during the talent show happening all event long. Experience the best of East meets West with performances blending Canto pop and Canadian pop, enchanting appearances from the Pop Princess and Queen Elsa, dazzling Bollywood and Flamenco dance shows, and the spectacular Lion Dance.
The festival is also a dream for sports lovers – in addition to watching the World Kong Cup (featuring over 40 soccer teams from all over the world), kids can show off their skills in the Little Kickers Soccer Challenge, test their reflexes in table tennis and pickle ball trials, and compete in the Kids Olympics.
Players in the World Kong Cup will compete for prestigious awards, including the Inukshuk Trophy which represents guidance, unity and endurance. The trophy serves as a reminder that together, we can build bridges across cultures, just as stones come together to form an Inuksuk.
