More than 290,000 spectators are expected to gather along both sides of Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour for the National Day fireworks, with major roads in the Tsim Sha Tsui area closing in phases starting from 5pm on October 1.
The force on Friday also urged residents and visitors to be mindful of the traffic arrangements, which include bus route changes, and consider less crowded areas such as the West Kowloon district and Hung Hom Promenade.
Police expected the turnout for this year’s National Day fireworks on October 1 to be similar to last year’s event of around 290,000 people.
The HK$18 million (US$2.3 million) firework display, set on October 1 to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, will start at 8pm and last 23 minutes, featuring eight scenes including themes inspired by Chinese animated blockbuster Ne Zha and the National Games.
“In the past, areas near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui would gather big crowds,” said Ho Chun-hin, the acting superintendent of the enforcement and control division of traffic Kowloon West.
“We suggest viewers consider other less crowded areas, such as West Kowloon Cultural District, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Hung Hom Promenade instead.”
