STONE COUNTY, Mo. — A 20-year-old from Cape Fair, Missouri, was arrested by law enforcement after a man was shot in the abdomen on Sunday, Sept. 21.

According to the probable cause statement, witnesses told Stone County deputies that Harris was shooting firearms outside the home earlier that day. He later went inside and was handling a rifle when it discharged.
At this time, someone was standing outside the front door smoking a cigarette and immediately screamed that they had been shot. Harris then exited the home to check on the victim, left the handgun at a nearby residence and fled from the area on foot.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and had to undergo surgery for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Witnesses added that Harris was drinking alcohol before the incident, and deputies found two Coors cans and marijuana paraphernalia at the scene. Harris later denied using alcohol or marijuana that day.
Harris was eventually found at a neighborhood residence a few hours later. Harris told deputies that the rifle was propped up on a wall and accidentally fired when it fell over, which deputies say was inconsistent with witness testimony and physical evidence. A strong odor of alcohol was also detected on Harris, and he later said he was “high as f—” to jail staff during intake.
Harris is currently in Stone County Jail and is being held with no bond.
