Louis Dreyfus Company Builds Agro-Industrial Technology Park in China

Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has begun construction of a new food technology park in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 26 and marked another step in the company’s long-term strategy for the Chinese market.

According to LDC, the technology park will house facilities for:

  • processing of oilseeds,
  • production of specialized feed proteins and products,
  • production of food lecithin.

This is in line with the company’s strategy to strengthen its core trading operations and expand its value chain in the Chinese market.

The project will be completed by 2027. The total area of the facility will be 153,000 m², and the capacity will be

  • up to 1.5 million tons of feed proteins,
  • 370 thousand tons of refined oil,
  • 15 thousand tons of lecithin per year.

The establishment of the enterprise will create about 200 jobs.

“The food technology park in Qingdao is an important step in LDC’s expansion in China, where we have been operating for over 50 years. The project will strengthen our local expertise and contribute to the sustainable development of the country’s agro-industrial complex,” said Gerrity Chen, head of LDC for Northeast Asia.

The facility is located in the Dongjiakou Economic Zone, one of the largest logistics hubs in northeastern China, with access to a deep-water port connected to more than 700 ports in 180 countries around the world.

“Shandong Province is one of the largest agricultural regions in China, with a gross agricultural output of 1.28 trillion yuan ($178 billion) in 2024. Therefore, it is here that we are creating a new industrial base to supply the markets of East China and the entire Northeast Asia with high-quality products for the food and feed industries,” Chen added.

The new project is a logical continuation of LDC’s expansion in China: in May, the company launched a production line for specialized feed lecithin at its oil refinery in Tianjin (with a capacity of 4,000 tons of soybean processing and 1,200 tons of oil refining per day).
