Liverpool preparing £100 million bid for Premier League player to continue Arne Slot's major squad rebuild

The Liverpool boss is expected to make several massive moves during the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot could be preparing another massive £100m bid to rebuild his squad just days after completing a deal for Florian Wirtz.

After a quiet first year in the transfer market under Slot, Liverpool appear to be prepared to spend big over the summer as the Dutch manager looks to revamp his Premier League winning squad ahead of next season.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong was the first player to join the Reds as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, while a Premier League record deal for Wirtz is expected to be announced in the coming days.

But Slot’s rebuild isn’t expected to stop there as the club are believed to be targeting several other big players including Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez and another £100million Premier League star.

According to a report from The Sun, Liverpool are considering reviving a massive move Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon amid uncertainty around the future of Luis Diaz.

Previous reports have suggested that, if Diaz is to leave the club this summer to join Barcelona or another club, Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola would be Slot’s first choice.

However, it is now believed that the Champions League winners are eager to keep a hold of the Frenchman, leading to Liverpool turning their attention to Everton academy graduate Gordon, who has been linked with a move to Anfield several times in the past.

But a move for the 24-year-old won’t be cheap, as the Newcastle star is held in high regard by Eddie Howe and members of the Newcastle board.

Since his arrival from Everton in a £45m transfer back in January 2024, the Liverpudlian has established himself as a key player in Howe’s squad, making scoring 22 goals and assisting 26 across 106 appearances in all competitions.

Although Gordon’s price tag likely won’t be an issue for Liverpool, particularly given the fact that at least one of Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota are expected to leave in the coming months.

And should the move happen, it is believed that Newcastle could look to replace Gordon with a loan move for Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Newcastle, Eddie Howe and a supposed preference for Premier League transfers

Some supporters are perplexed — given the lack of a senior signing and Eddie Howe’s end-of-season warning that Newcastle needed to act “very quickly” — by what is perceived to be the head coach’s unbending desire to acquire Premier League-based players.
