Live updates as president meets King Charles and other royals at Windsor Castle

While President Trump and first lady Melania Trump have received a red carpet welcome from the royal family at Windsor Castle, 20 miles west of London, thousands of protesters have poured into the capital city to register their opposition to the president’s politics and policies.

YouGov polling shows that 70% of U.K. residents have a negative opinion of Trump; 16% have a positive opinion.

A crowd gathered near Oxford Circus with signs reading, “Dump Trump,” “Trump for Prison” and “No to racism, No to Trump.” Some played drums in front of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s residence and office at No. 10 Downing St.

Protesters then proceeded to march to Parliament, where speakers, including singer-songwriter Billy Bragg and former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, addressed the crowd.

Zack Polanski, the new leader of Britain’s Green Party, told protesters that “this is the moment to challenge everything that Donald Trump stands for; this is the moment to reject the politics of hate and division.”
