Juventus star ‘in line for potential Premier League move’ as he is expected to leave Italian giants this summer

A Juventus star could be set for a move to the Premier League after reports that he is primed for an exit from the Italian giants this summer.

The player in question moved to Serie A last summer but struggled to settle in Turin as he made just 19 league appearances for the Bianconeri.

He could be an attractive name to teams in the English top flight having spent five years with Aston Villa before he was sold for £40million last summer.

Douglas Luiz played an influential part in the Villains’ return to the Champions League two seasons ago as he was a key cog in Unai Emery‘s midfield.

However, he was sold in a last-minute deal to Juventus just over 12 months ago to help Villa comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

While his loss was a blow to Emery’s side, it meant that they were not hit with a points reduction and still managed to qualify for the Europa League

Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Brazilian international, who has made 18 appearances for the Selecao, could return to England.

He added that Luiz has not been in talks with Como FC, despite reports claiming that the midfielder could sign for them.

It comes after the midfielder was linked with a move away in January, but stayed put and robustly defended his position when coming under fire from one fan on social media back in April.

In an Instagram post at the time, they replied to Luiz and questioned him on whether he had moved to Italy to post on Instagram or to play.

‘I didn’t come here just to post photos,’ Luiz fired back. ‘No one else did that, and I want things to be different. I came here with a purpose. I listened to my heart when I arrived and decided to sign.

‘Now I want you to answer me: why hasn’t a signing like mine played two consecutive games with this shirt?

‘You can say what you want to the press later: “Oh, Douglas is not fit.” Am I not fit? I did all the pre-season and played every game. I had just had one of the best seasons of my career, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.’

Luiz did go onto reflect on his injury issues in the lengthy reply, before he reaffirmed his commitment to Juventus.

‘Injuries have hindered me, yes,’ he added. ‘But how long did I remain on the bench while I was healthy? A lot. These injuries were not normal.

‘I have never been a player who gets injured, but there are so many things that could have caused this that I would rather not comment on.

‘I will continue to do everything for this club, even if sometimes it is difficult, it is not easy, but you can count on me!’
