Juventus Player Ratings vs Inter: Adzic Steals Show in Breathless Derby d’Italia

Juventus reaffirmed their Serie A title credentials with an epic 4-3 win over last season’s runners-up Inter in the 254th edition of the famous Derby d’Italia. More importantly, the Bianconeri maintained their perfect start to the new season, leapfrogging Napoli at the top of the table, at least temporarily.

Juventus got the game off to a flyer as Lloyd Kelly scored his first goal in the Bianconeri shirt to open the scoring in the 14th minute. However, Inter replied midway through the first half through Hakan Calhanoglu, who pounced on Carlos Augusto’s assist.

Inter’s celebration was short-lived. Juventus regained the lead on the stroke of halftime, with Kenan Yildiz finding his first goal of the season. Seemingly content with a narrow lead, Igor Tudor’s side surrendered possession at the start of the second half.

Despite failing to create anything noteworthy by the 65th minute, Inter found a well-deserved equalizer. Calhanoglu slotted home a superb volley from the edge of the box after receiving the ball on his chest. The Nerazzurri turned the game on its head as Marcus Thuram scored a towering header in the 76th minute.

Khephren Thuram wasn’t at his best tonight, but he came up huge in the 83rd minute, heading home Yildiz’s free-kick delivery to inspire a stunning comeback. Vasilije Adzic scored off the bench at the start of second-half stoppages to hand Juventus three vital points.

Without further ado, let’s look at our Juventus ratings.

Juventus (3-4-2-1)

Michele Di Gregorio – 5/10

The Italian goalkeeper will be frustrated for conceding twice from outside of the box. While he was powerless to stop the volley, there’s an argument he could’ve done more for the first.

Despite being criticized for his recent performances, the English defender looked rock-solid today. In addition to scoring the opener, he fared well against the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

The Brazilian has been the cornerstone of Juventus’ defense since returning from injury, but he was much more today. Indeed, he was the creative force of his team, setting up both first-half goals.

Though his appearance was not as flashy as Bremer’s or Kelly’s, the Italian delivered a composed display, winning crucial duels and keeping Inter’s forwards at bay.

Forced to play out of position, the USMNT midfielder struggled on the left wing. Despite being decent in possession, Denzel Dumfries exposed his defensive shortcomings on the opposite side of the pitch.

It was a quiet evening for the French midfielder. Sometimes erratic in his decision-making, he rarely influenced the game, but he stepped up when Juventus needed him the most, scoring a crucial header to level the score.

Manuel Locatelli – 6/10

Calm and collected in possession, yet passive and reluctant to take risks, Juventus’ captain failed to provide any spark of imagination from deep in the midfield.

Though he was almost invisible in attack, the former Milan star stood out with his discipline and reliability at the back.

Teun Koopmeiners – 5/10

The Dutch midfielder played in an advanced position today and couldn’t make an impact. A first-half booking was his most noticeable contribution to the game.

After a relatively underwhelming start to the match, the Turkish prodigy grew into the contest, scoring a crucial goal toward the end of the first half to restore Juve’s lead.

Handed a rare chance to start after scoring in the first two Serie A outings, the Serbian superstar had an evening to forget. Cut off from the rest of the team, Vlahovic cut a frustrated character.
