Is Sofía Vergara still interested in having a partner? Star says she ‘can be picky’

Us Weekly’s latest cover story is pulling back the curtain on one of Hollywood’s most dynamic duos: Sofía Vergara and her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara. Known for her charisma on “Modern Family” and his sharp sense of humor, the mother-son pair sat down for a rare and honest interview, opening up about their unconventional lives, their unshakable bond, and the lessons they’ve carried through love, divorce, and parenting.

At 51, Sofía is unapologetically embracing singlehood and freedom. The star, who finalized her divorce from Joe Manganiello in 2023, admitted she’s in no rush to jump back into anything serious. “I’m single again and having fun. I’m not really looking for anything right now, I’m just trying to have my options open,” she shared.

Still, Vergara remains hopeful that the right partner will eventually come along: “Eventually, I’d like to have someone who’s in tune with what I do and my age. I can be picky because I’m not in a hurry.”

Parenting in a Changing World

The Colombian-born actress also reflected on how much parenting has changed since raising Manolo, now 32. “All the things kids have access to now with social media and computers and phones. I’m so thankful I didn’t go through that, because it’s a completely different animal [in regards to] what parents have to be monitoring and thinking about.” That insight highlights a generational shift. For Sofía, parenting in the 1990s came with its challenges — but nothing like the digital age’s 24/7 exposure.

The Challenges of Single Motherhood

Raising Manolo as a single mom wasn’t easy, and Sofía admits the guilt was real. “You feel guilty because you can’t be available all the time. I had to travel a lot because of the entertainment business,” she revealed.

But despite the obstacles, she also pointed out the silver lining. “I didn’t have to deal with anyone telling me how to do things. His father trusted me, so that was really cool — [we] didn’t have to fight or put him in the middle.”

Though the feature centers largely on Sofía, Manolo also opens up about growing up with a mom who was already larger-than-life. For him, the childhood memories come with humor and pride. Raised with a front-row seat to the entertainment industry, he’s also quick to credit his mother’s determination for shaping who he is today.

Their bond is easy to see, not just in the interview but in the way they support each other. Whether it’s Manolo poking fun at his mom on Instagram or Sofía cheering him on in his creative projects, their relationship proves that family ties can thrive outside the “traditional” mold.
