iPhone and iPad users can now emulate Switch games at full speed thanks to AltStore

AltStore PAL, one of the first alternative app store available for iPhones in the EU after last years major DMA changes, has announced the release of AltStore Classic for AltStore PAL users – allowing hundreds of non-notarized apps, including those that require JIT compilation, to be installed with no hassle.

In celebration of the 1 year anniversary of AltStore PAL, the team behind AltStore PAL has added AltStore Classic to the PAL store. AltStore Classic allows users to install hundreds of non-notarized apps. It’s essentially the version of AltStore you’ve been able to sideload since 2019.

And yes, you are indeed reading that correctly: you can sideload an alternative app store inside of an alternative app store.

However, the new version of AltStore Classic has some notable advantages for those who live in the EU. It doesn’t expire, doesn’t require a developer account, and doesn’t require you to manage AltServer on a separate PC or Mac for installation. AltServer will still be required to manage non-notarized apps once AltStore Classic is installed.

On top of all the new AltStore Classic launch, the AltStore team has also announced a new app, StikDebug. This allows on-device JIT compilation for any app installed with AltStore Classic.

With on-device JIT compilation, EU iPhone users can now utilize heavier emulators that require the capability. That includes Dolphin emulator for Wii and GameCube games, as well as meloNX emulator for Switch games.

In short, it’s a great time to be a Nintendo fan who lives in the EU. Emulating more modern games directly on your iPhone or iPad has never been easier, provided that you’re able to obtain the games legally.
