Hong Kong’s weather is expected to become unstable next week as three low-pressure areas develop near the South China Sea, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the city.
The Hong Kong Observatory said on Saturday at least two of the low-pressure areas might develop into typhoons.
It added that a broad low-pressure trough might cause unsettled weather in the central and northern parts of the South China Sea early to midweek next week.
“An area of low pressure may develop within the trough of low pressure,” the forecaster said.
“With the low pressure system moving northwards and edging closer to the coast of southern China in the latter part of next week, the weather will be unsettled with more showers and squally thunderstorms over the region.”
A low-pressure area is a region with lower atmospheric pressure than its surrounding locations, commonly associated with inclement weather, such as clouds, winds and possible rain or storms.
