Hong Kong police have arrested another person in connection with a brutal attack on a prison officer outside a correctional facility in Sai Kung last year, bringing the total number of suspects to 14.
The arrest, made on Monday, involved a man who had reportedly fled to mainland China following the incident. After more than six months on the run, he was intercepted by mainland authorities and handed over to Hong Kong police.
At about 4.10pm on Tuesday, the suspect, wearing a black hood and with his wrists cuffed, was escorted by multiple officers back to Pik Uk Prison on Clear Water Bay Road for a crime scene reconstruction.
Investigators used a mannequin to simulate the victim and questioned the suspect about the sequence of events. The reconstruction concluded at 4.30pm.
The attack occurred on November 1, shortly after the officer had finished his shift at the prison.
As the prison officer approached a minibus stop, three men ambushed him, repeatedly striking him with what police later described as “stick-like hard objects.” The officer suffered six wounds to his head and arms, as well as a fractured wrist.
