Hong Kong’s move to reclaim its position as a premier MICE destination in Asia continues with the launch of TIDES, a purpose-built live music venue by international entertainment group Live Nation. Located in the bustling Hung Hom district of Kowloon, TIDES is housed within one of the city’s most recognisable, and curious, landmarks: The Whampoa, a cruise ship-shaped complex best known as a shopping centre.
“Hong Kong is one of Asia’s most vibrant cultural hubs, with a strong appetite for live music and a strategic location that connects regional and global touring circuits,” says Stephanie Bax, president of venue development Asia at Live Nation. “Its rich history, dynamic population, and world-class infrastructure made it a natural first step in expanding our venue portfolio in Asia.”
Opening in autumn 2025, the 1,500-seat venue spans two levels and boasts fully integrated production capabilities with touring-grade infrastructure. Live Nation aims for 250 event days per year, positioning TIDES as a flexible space that bridges a long-standing gap in Hong Kong’s mid-sized event market – which is only partially served by newer venues such as the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District, and the main auditorium in the East Kowloon Cultural Centre.
While primarily a music venue, TIDES was designed to be versatile and appropriate for multiple uses besides concerts. “The capacity means that it is open to all businesses and event organisers seeking a modern, mid-sized venue with fully integrated, plug-and-play production capabilities, featuring built-in sound, lighting and flexible staging,” Bax explains.
“That includes not just performing acts, but also brand activations, corporate functions, and mid-scale productions,” she adds. “[Event organisers] can host everything from a special gala dinner to a full-scale product launch with all the technical infrastructure already in place, significantly reducing production time and cost.”
In addition, TIDES can provide comprehensive catering services, and among its key spaces are its premium VIP lounge with F&B offerings. “While we have a dedicated in-house F&B team and our own concessions, we are highly flexible and open to collaboration,” says Bax.
TIDES is part of a Live Nation’s broader expansion in Asia, alongside plans for the 3,000-seat Grange Road venue in Singapore and potential projects in Japan, Thailand, and India.
