City authorities are in talks with a leading French aeronautical services company about the allocation of land to develop Hong Kong into Asia’s first aircraft parts processing and trading centre, with the firm set to start training classes in two months.
Daniel Derichebourg, chairman and CEO of France-based Elior Group, said the company was still in talks with the government about solutions that would work best to help Hong Kong grow as a centre for aircraft parts dismantling, recycling and trading.
“We are willing to invest in Hong Kong because we are confident about its economy and status as an international city,” he said in an interview with the Post.
“Yes, we are in discussions. We want to bring an industry here. So we’re working closely with the government.”
A government source said the firm was in talks with the Airport Authority about the granting of a site at Hong Kong airport for dismantling aircraft and parts trading amid a host of considerations.
“The city’s airport is very busy with transporting passengers and cargo, and is occupied by different companies. The Airport Authority needs to identify a site suitable for the firm without disrupting the airport’s operation,” the insider said.
