Hong Kong’s weather forecaster cancelled an amber rainstorm warning signal on Tuesday, but warned that showers and squally thunderstorms would persist throughout the day.

The Hong Kong Observatory lifted the signal at 11.15am after it issued it at 9.41am and said that an active southerly airstream was bringing showers and squally thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of South China Sea.

A tropical depression over the northern part of Vietnam was centred about 140km southwest of Nanning at 10am and is forecast to dissipate gradually after entering inland Guangxi, according to the forecaster.

It added that there would still be showers and squally thunderstorms along the coast of Guangdong.

Showers are expected over the next couple of days before they gradually ease off as the weekend approaches.
