Hong Kong Airlines Unveils Major Overhaul of Frequent Flyer Programme with Spend-Based Model Launching July 2025

Hong Kong Airlines has officially announced a significant transformation of its loyalty programme, the Fortune Wings Club (FWC), with a shift to a spending-based points system set to take effect from 1 July 2025. This strategic update is aimed at delivering enhanced value and flexibility to members, especially in conjunction with the carrier’s ongoing expansion of long-haul services and continuous service improvements.

Moving forward, members will accumulate FWC points based on the amount they spend on tickets rather than the traditional method based on the flight distance. This update ensures that members’ actual financial contribution is directly rewarded—making every dollar spent more meaningful. In addition, elite-tier members will enjoy exclusive bonus points, further enhancing their rewards.

As part of the broader revamp, Hong Kong Airlines has also refined the award ticket redemption structure. The newly adjusted chart features simplified, more transparent redemption tiers, giving members a clearer understanding of how to maximise their points. Notably, the number of points required for select popular routes has been significantly reduced. For instance, a one-way Economy Class flight to Osaka, which previously required 25,000 points, will now be available for just 18,000 points.

The updates span both Economy and Business Class cabins, offering more appealing choices across a wide range of destinations. With these changes, Hong Kong Airlines aims to make trip planning more seamless and rewarding, encouraging members to take greater advantage of their loyalty benefits.

Mr Wilson Yam, Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines, stated: “Hong Kong Airlines is the first
local carrier to adopt this innovative method for points accrual based on member’s spending.
We believe this will offer our existing members a refreshingly straightforward experience, while
also attracting new members to the programme.”

“As a full-service airline, our focus remains on elevating every aspect of the passenger experience. From offering smooth and efficient baggage handling and a diverse range of in-flight dining options to improving our digital check-in capabilities and enhancing lounge facilities at airports, we are committed to making travel more comfortable and hassle-free. At the same time, we are steadily growing our global reach, with the successful reinstatement and introduction of long-haul routes to destinations such as Vancouver and Sydney. These strategic expansions strengthen our position as a vital air link between China and the rest of the world, while further solidifying Hong Kong’s standing as a premier international aviation gateway, catering to an expanding global customer base.”

The Fortune Wings Club is Hong Kong Airlines’ official loyalty programme, offering members not just the ability to redeem miles for award flights, but also an array of premium travel perks. These include priority check-in services, expedited baggage handling, advance seat selection, additional baggage allowances, and access to a network of airport lounges around the globe.

As part of its ongoing commitment to rewarding loyal travelers, Hong Kong Airlines has introduced the China CITIC Bank International Hong Kong Airlines co-branded Mastercard®. This credit card comes packed with valuable incentives, including generous welcome bonus points that can be used towards award flight redemptions, as well as points earned through everyday spending—making it easier and faster for cardholders to accumulate rewards for future travel.

Beyond accelerated points accrual, the card also delivers a robust package of benefits such as complimentary travel insurance, global lounge access, and exclusive entry to annual Flash Sale promotions. During these limited-time events, members can redeem tickets to select destinations for half the usual points, or upgrade to Business Class at a 50% discount in points, unlocking premium experiences at exceptional value. Whether at home or abroad, cardholders enjoy enhanced travel rewards every time they spend.
