Hong Kong Airlines will launch five-times weekly nonstop flights connecting Hong Kong and Xi’an from 18 July 2025, offering travellers convenient access to explore this fascinating city, where ancient history and modern life meet. This new service supports the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) by fostering tourism, cultural, and trade links. It also strengthens connectivity between Hong Kong and the wider region, building a vital air bridge for collaboration.
Located in Northwestern China, Xi’an is one of the nation’s four great ancient capitals and the historic starting point of the Silk Road. The city is home to world-renowned heritage sites, including the magnificent Terracotta Army, the well-preserved Ming Dynasty City Wall, the ancient Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, and the vibrant Muslim Quarter. In recent years, Xi’an has integrated digital technology to create immersive cultural experiences, allowing history enthusiasts to step back into the golden age of the Tang Dynasty. For nature lovers, the dramatic landscapes of Mount Hua, one of China’s most famous mountains, are within easy reach.
Xi’an is also a key economic, cultural, and technological hub in western China, playing a crucial role in the BRI. With growing trade and cultural exchanges between the two regions, demand for both business and leisure travel continues to rise. This new service will further strengthen these ties and promote regional collaboration.
This expansion highlights Hong Kong Airlines’ ongoing strategy to enhance its Asia-Pacific network. Following the successful launch of services to destinations such as Dunhuang, Xining, Vientiane and Da Nang, the airline is again targeting high-potential inland cities in response to market demand. The Xi’an route creates another important aerial corridor along the Belt and Road.
The new route will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft. As a full-service carrier, Hong Kong Airlines is committed to enhancing the travel experience with quality in-flight dining and a hassle-free baggage policy.
