Hong Kong Airlines Inaugural Flight Lands in Sydney – Travel Radar

On June 20th the inaugural flight departed from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) heading for Sydney. Hong Kong Airlines are only the second local airline to operate this route, opening opportunities for tourism and business growth across the pacific.

Flight Departed Following A Launch Ceremony

To celebrate this historic occasion a launch ceremony was held prior to departure at HKIA attended by Mr Jeff Sun, President of Hong Kong Airlines and Mr Ian McGraw from the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong, among many more. Passengers were presented with a bespoke souvenir to commemorate the new route. The inaugural service was enabled by the first expansion of bilateral air traffic rights between Hong Kong and Australia in nearly two decades. Jeff Sun stated that 

As a full-service local carrier, the launch of our Sydney service marks a significant step in out transformation to an international airline.

A Milestone for Hong Kong and Australian Connections

Sydney to Hong Kong routes remain one of Sydney Airport’s busiest, with more than 850,00 passengers flying between cities in 2024. Sydney Airport’s CEO hopes this partnership will reflect the strength of their longstanding cultural and economic ties with Hong Kong. Though Hong Kong Airlines is a younger brand in the mature Australian market they are proving themselves as a passenger-centric service, providing attentive in-flight service and fine dining for long-haul customers. This new route will allow stronger connections for students, tourists, and business professionals. The Inaugural flight touched down the morning of June 21st and was welcomed with water canon salutes and a ceremony.

Hong Kong Airlines Expect a Busy Summer

Established in 2006, Hong Kong Airlines currently fly to 30 destinations across Asia Pacific and North America on an all-Airbus fleet. Since the beginning of this year, the airline has inaugurated or reinstated various destinations in efforts to cultivate an extensive and diverse route map. They have also increases the frequency of their flights across Asia Pacific to cater for the booming summer travel demand. The airline will launch another flight in July providing even more travel opportunities for passengers this summer.
