Hong Kong Airlines expands its network with the launch of a direct flight to Lijiang, providing seamless travel options between two iconic destinations in China because the new route enhances connectivity, boosts tourism, and creates easier access for both leisure and business travelers looking to explore the cultural charm of Lijiang while maintaining strong links to the dynamic hub of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Airlines marked a significant milestone yesterday with the launch of its inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Lijiang. The flight, which connects the bustling city of Hong Kong with the picturesque destination of Lijiang in southwest China, is expected to cater to both business and leisure travelers. To celebrate the launch, the airline hosted grand events at both Hong Kong International Airport and Lijiang Sanyi International Airport, featuring traditional ceremonies and warm welcomes for passengers embarking on the new route.

At Hong Kong International Airport, the atmosphere was filled with excitement as passengers and staff gathered to commemorate the new route. Special performances, including local cultural displays, were held to usher in the first flight, alongside the customary ribbon-cutting ceremony. Similarly, Lijiang Sanyi International Airport welcomed the aircraft with a traditional water salute, symbolizing good fortune for the new connection between the two cities. The occasion was marked by a festive atmosphere, reflecting the airline’s commitment to providing enhanced travel options for passengers.

This new service is a strategic move by Hong Kong Airlines to expand its network and offer more diverse travel options to destinations across China. The Hong Kong to Lijiang route is expected to foster stronger economic ties, particularly in tourism and business, between the two cities. With Lijiang’s increasing popularity as a tourist destination, Hong Kong Airlines aims to provide a seamless travel experience for those looking to explore the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region.

Mr Jeff Sun, President of Hong Kong Airlines, stated: “We are delighted to introduce this exclusive direct service to Lijiang, offering travellers a convenient option to reach this highly popular tourist destination. With the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival long holidays approaching, we believe this new route will become a favourite choice during the ‘Golden Week’ period, attracting more visitors to explore Lijiang’s unique charm.”

“This direct route not only significantly reduces travel time but also seamlessly integrates with our extensive international network. Passengers from our destinations in Australia and North America, including Sydney, Melbourne and Vancouver, as well as those on our exclusive Saipan service, can easily connect via the Hong Kong hub to Lijiang.  With just one ticket for the entire journey and through-check baggage service, travellers enjoy a hassle-free transfer experience while effortlessly discovering the beauty of China.”

Located in southwest China, Lijiang acts as a key hub linking the mainland to Southeast Asia. The introduction of this new route enhances both economic and cultural connections between Hong Kong and western mainland China, contributing to the growth of tourism between the regions. It also emphasizes Hong Kong’s pivotal role in the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ and reinforces its standing as a dual-directional international aviation center connecting mainland China to the global network.

Hong Kong Airlines expands its network with the launch of a direct flight to Lijiang, creating a seamless link between two of China’s most iconic destinations. The new service strengthens connectivity, offering travelers greater convenience and flexibility. It also supports tourism growth by opening easier access to Lijiang’s cultural and natural attractions while keeping Hong Kong firmly connected as a major gateway.

Hong Kong Airlines remains dedicated to expanding its services in the China market, with its extensive network covering numerous major cities and airports, including Beijing Capital, Beijing Daxing, Haikou, Sanya, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai Pudong, Chongqing, Chengdu Tianfu, Xining, Dunhuang, Hulunbuir, and Lijiang. As part of its preparations for the busy National Day Golden Week, the airline will adjust flight capacities to accommodate rising demand, such as increasing flights to Hulunbuir in Inner Mongolia and deploying wide-body aircraft on selected routes.
