
HONG KONG – To celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Oct 1, Hong Kong will roll out a variety of cultural events and special offers for residents and visitors to join in the celebrations.
The day will begin with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a dazzling fireworks display over Victoria Harbour in the evening, with more than 30,000 fireworks set to light up the city sky.
Residents can ride trams and select ferry routes for free, while the city’s rail operator, MTR Corp, will distribute 76,000 free single-journey e-tickets via a lucky draw. Moviegoers can enjoy half-price tickets at all commercial cinemas across the city, and over 1,000 restaurants and retailers will offer dining and shopping discounts.
Top attractions like Ngong Ping 360 and Ocean Park will have discounted tickets, while visitors to heritage-arts venue Tai Kwun, the Peak Tram, and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong will receive free souvenirs.
Flagship Macao products
The 11th Macau Industrial Products Show, set to take place from Oct 2 to 5, will gather around 200 exhibitors, selling snacks, household appliances, health products, etc., along with a series of promotional events, stage performances, and lucky draws.
There will be daily limited sales of products priced at MOP1 ($0.12), and items with discounts of up to 90 percent. Free DIY dessert workshops will also be held on Oct 4 and 5.
The Expo offers free admission and provides a free shuttle bus service.
Beer, food festival
Beer, food, music, intangible cultural heritage – these are what the Baiyun International Beer and Food Festival aims to provide visitors with an immersive experience of taste and culture.
Scheduled to be held from Oct 1 to 3 at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center, the festival is open from 4 pm to 10 pm daily, and the entry fee is set at 38 yuan ($5.3). This fee includes a cup of 330-milliliter beer or an equivalent other drink, a snack, and a festival souvenir.
A featured zone will gather over 100 beer brands, inviting premier beer brands, and setting up interactive activities. An international food zone will feature over 40 overseas food brands.
