Here’s how to score one of my favorite midrange phones for free

The Motorola Edge 2025 is one of my favorite midrange phones of this year. Unfortunately, it has a perplexing initial MSRP, which makes it almost impossible to recommend it without the help of a sale or carrier discount. Thankfully, Motorola midrange phones are often found for less, and there’s always an opportunity to pick up an excellent device at a reasonable price.

Metro by T-Mobile has a deal on the Motorola Edge 2025 worth considering. You can pick up an Edge for free when you port over your existing number and choose a $60 monthly service plan. Even if you need a new number, you’ll only pay $50, a deep discount from MSRP.

Why you should buy a Motorola Edge 2025

The Motorola Edge may be a non-starter for $550, but under $400 (or free), it becomes a fantastic value. Its 6.7-inch Super HD OLED display is sharp, with deep contrast. The Edge has the best screen on any phone under $400, and that’s a significant reason why you’ll want to pick one up.

The Motorola Edge also has a premium build, with its slightly curved glass tapering to its aluminum frame. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, as Motorola has made improved durability a point of emphasis this year. I still wouldn’t get into the habit of dropping my phone, but any added protection is welcome.

Its performance is absolutely midrange, but that’s what I’d expect. The Dimensity 7400 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM is capable, as long as you keep your expectations in check. I never expected any undue slowdowns, but it definitely shows its limitations when running higher-end mobile games. Android 15 runs well on the Edge 2025, and while Moto is lacking in software updates, hopefully, the price eases some of the pain.

The battery life is better than I expected. The Edge features a large 5,200mAh cell, and I consistently get two days of mixed use on a single charge. Recharge speeds are also impressive, especially for the price. The Edge has the same 68W wired charging speeds as some of Motorola’s more expensive models — a nice touch.

I was most surprised by the camera performance. Motorola’s midrange phones always have impressive primary sensors capable of saturated photos in good lighting, but the Edge actually does a solid job capturing motion, something my Galaxy S25 Ultra even struggles with. All told, it’s hard to beat the Motorola Edge for free, especially if you are already considering switching carriers.

The Edge 2025 also includes several built-in AI features and boasts a 6.7-inch Super HD pOLED display.
