Global EV battery usage totaled 308.5 GWh in January-April, up 40.2 percent from 220.1 GWh in the same period last year, according to data released by South Korean market research firm SNE Research on June 4.
CATL’s EV battery installations reached 117.6 GWh in January-April, up 42.4 percent from 82.6 GWh in the same period last year.
The Chinese battery giant maintained its position as the world’s top supplier with a 38.1 percent market share in January-April, remaining the only battery supplier with a market share exceeding 30 percent.
This is higher than its 37.5 percent share in January-April 2024, though lower than its 38.3 percent share in January-March 2025.
BYD’s EV battery installations reached 53.4 GWh in January-April, up 60.8 percent from 33.2 GWh in the same period last year.
The company ranked second with a 17.3 percent share in January-April, up from 15.1 percent in January-April 2024 and 16.7 percent in January-March 2025.
LG Energy Solution’s battery installations for January-April reached 31.4 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 16.3 percent.
The South Korean company maintained its third-place position with a 10.2 percent market share in January-April, down from 12.3 percent in the same period last year and also below the 10.7 percent recorded in January-March 2025.
South Korea’s SK On ranked fourth with a 4.3 percent market share, China’s CALB ranked fifth with a 3.9 percent market share, and Gotion High-tech ranked sixth with a 3.4 percent market share.
South Korea’s Samsung SDI, Japan’s Panasonic, China’s Eve Energy, and Svolt Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, with market shares of 3.3 percent, 3.0 percent, 2.7 percent, and 2.6 percent in the first four months.
BYD’s share rose 1.83 percentage points in April from March, while CATL’s fell 2.94 percentage points.
