Global BC technology summit & 14th bifiPV workshop to be held in China in November

The global BC technology summit and 14th bifiPV workshop will take place on November 24-25 in Yiwu, China’s Zhejiang province, a hub of photovoltaic innovation. Co-organized by Germany’s International Solar Energy Research Center (ISC Konstanz) and leading solar technology company AIKO, the event will bring together global experts, academics and industry decision-makers to advance high-quality, safe and reliable bifacial back-contact (BC) solar technology.

Building on the success of previous editions and the widespread industry recognition of BC technology as a definitive future trend, accelerated by last year’s summit and the leadership of AIKO and other key players, this year’s summit evolves its focus. As major manufacturers increasingly invest in BC, the industry’s priority shifts towards enhancing reliability, consistent high-yield production and safety. These critical topics will be integrated throughout the PV systems application sessions, addressing these next-phase challenges from materials and manufacturing to system-level standards and solutions.

The two-day program will feature over 30 presentations, covering essential areas such as high-quality material and ingot production, bifacial BC cell R&D and production, BC module material production, testing/modeling and PV system application and safety. In addition, participants will be able to visit AIKO´s production and R&D site on the third day. Confirmed participants include internationally recognized institutions ANU, UNSW, GÜNAM, ISC Konstanz, TNO and Delft University of Technology, alongside leading companies includingAIKO, LONGi, Futura Sun, SPIC, AE Solar, Wavelabs, PV Lighthouse and Semilab.

Dr. Radovan Kopecek, Co-Chair of the Workshop and Head of Department Strategy and Education at ISC Konstanz, commented: “We are excited to announce bifiPV2025, following the tremendous success of bifiPV2024 in Zhuhai. Building on this momentum, we are delighted to organize bifiPV2025 in Yiwu, the headquarters of AIKO, with a special focus on bifacial BC technology—an ongoing innovation set to become mainstream in the coming years. This event will bring together industry leaders and R&D experts from around the world to discuss the future of crystalline silicon PV and accelerate our crucial energy transition.”

Dr. Christian Peter, Co-Chair of the Workshop and Managing Director of Solarlab Aiko Europe, added: “This year’s summit places particular emphasis on safety and reliability requirements for diverse application scenarios, reflecting the industry’s maturation. By strengthening collaboration between research and manufacturing, we are building a cohesive BC ecosystem that accelerates global commercialization and promotes unified standards. This gathering represents a vital step toward establishing BC technology as the foundation for next-generation solar solutions.”

A highlight of the event will be an exclusive visit to AIKO’s state-of-the-art BC manufacturing facility in Yiwu, offering attendees first-hand insight into advanced, intelligent production processes for high-efficiency ABC modules.

With an expected attendance of over 500 industry leaders, the summit aims to foster in-depth technical exchange and drive collective progress across the BC value chain. By uniting upstream and downstream stakeholders, the event will reinforce industry-research synergy and ecosystem collaboration, ultimately accelerating the global adoption of BC technology and solidifying its leadership in the photovoltaic industry’s future development.
