German football expert predicts what will happen to Florian Wirtz in 10 years as he prepares to join Liverpool

Unlike many of their rivals, Liverpool only spend big in transfer windows when they feel it will be worthwhile.

The Reds are shrewd operators in the transfer market and have been known to be incredibly tight with their money in the past.

However, this year is an exception and Liverpool are going all out to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, demolishing the British transfer record to do so.

Questions have been raised as to whether he is worth all the hype, with this certainly being a huge gamble that will need to pay off.

One promising sign, though, is that experts in Germany only have good things to say about the 22-year-old, with one having a very bold prediction of what will happen to Wirtz in the next 10 years.

Florian Wirtz predicted to finish his career at Liverpool

Reportedly signing Wirtz for around £118m, Liverpool see this as a long-term investment and will hope he sticks around for many years to come.

German football expert Raphael Honigstein also believes this will be true, although he has predicted him to stay longer than perhaps anyone may think.

“If Liverpool get 10 years out of Florian Wirtz, and I think there is a realistic chance that he might never move from there, then you can take that money, divide it by 10 and it will look very reasonable,” Honigstein said on talkSPORT.

“He will play as a number 10, that’s the main reason they got him over Bayern as they couldn’t quite promise that central position to him.

“Will he be a success? I think he has all the attributes to be a success as he’s tenacious but also super skilful on the ball, good between the lines and is a cross between Kai Havertz and Joshua Kimmich.”

He concluded by saying: “He brings the technique and elegance on the ball, but also that tenacity and is great at pressing. Liverpool know what they are doing.”

How close is Florian Wirtz to joining Liverpool?

This deal has turned into more of a saga as the pace of the transfer has significantly slowed down, although it is clear that it will not come to a complete stop.

Wirtz is still expected to become a Liverpool player, something Honigstein confirmed when asked if he thinks he will join soon.

“Yes it is definitely happening, they are just talking about the last few millions and the structure, but it is clear Leverkusen and Liverpool will find an agreement,” he told talkSPORT.

“I think that was clear the moment Wirtz decided he was leaving Leverkusen, they of course asked for big money but Liverpool went into this knowingly.”

The first transfer window will shut very soon as the Club World Cup will begin shortly, although Liverpool are in no rush to confirm the deal and can even wait to announce him properly when the second transfer window opens again on June 16th.
