Protests against ICE’s immigration raids in LA have intensified and sparked demonstrations across the country – and a slew of stars have voiced their anger against President Trump

As protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids have continued, celebrities have spoken out against President Trump, including his decision to deploy troops. The protests began last Friday after raids by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were made as part of Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

The situation has escalated, with Trump defending his decision to send 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines. The president said he would “liberate” LA and prevent it from being “conquered by a foreign enemy”. Governor Gavin Newsom has accused Trump of “pulling a military dragnet” across the city, warning that “democracy is under assault”. Protests have now spread across the country, with demonstrations also being held in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Omaha and Seattle.

Celebrities who have spoken out against the immigration raids and military intervention at the LA protests include Mark Ruffalo, Ava DuVernay, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Doechii.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo, known for his roles in The Avengers and Poor Things, shared a lengthy post on Instagram, in which he urged people: “Don’t be a sucker for the fat cats at the top.” He said: “You want to get rid of the people who are picking your food, without a care in the world for who is poisoning your bodies with chemicals that aren’t meant to ever be in nature.”

Ruffalo added: “You want to drive out those who make your life easier but do not question those who dull your minds with lies and disinformation meant to confuse you and destroy brotherly and sisterly love for us here? You are pointing your guns in the wrong direction.” Ruffalo also called Donald Trump a “grifter”.

Doechii

Rapper Doechii spoke out about the demonstrations during her acceptance speech at the 2025 BET Awards earlier this week. She said: “There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest.”

Doechii added: “I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?” She also said it was her “responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people”.

Finneas

Finneas, a Grammy Award-winning musician, said that he had attended a protest. Billie Eilish’s brother and collaborator shared on social media that he had been “tear-gassed almost immediately at the very peaceful protest downtown.” He added: “They’re inciting this.”

Tom Morello

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello joined the protests in LA and could be seen in pictures wearing a shirt with the message “Destroy American Fascism” on it while holding a “Defend LA” sign.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen encouraged her 41.4 million followers on Instagram to protest against Donald Trump on June 14th.

She wrote: “Trump is throwing himself a $45 million dollar birthday party – a big military parade like some of his authoritarian idols have done. The White House says the parade is to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Army, which just happens to fall on the same day as Trump’s birthday. Rubbish. Trump wants a big military parade on his birthday and is using the anniversary as a pretext.”

She added: “On June 14th people all over America will gather peacefully to protest Donald Trump’s authoritarian spectacle.”

Ava DuVernay

Ava DuVernay, the director behind Selma and Middle of Nowhere, wrote on Instagram: “I’m witnessing tear gas and non-lethal rounds being unleashed on peaceful protesters in DTLA. People of all ages and stripes from all over the city, raising their voices. And being treated worse than January 6 terrorists.”

Eva Longoria

Meanwhile, actor and director Eva Longoria reposted a tweet on her Instagram story from Governor Gavin Newsom that accused Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defence, of “threatening to deploy active Marines on American soil”.

She added under the screenshot: “Un-American”.

Reneé Rapp

Singer and actress Reneé Rapp took to social media to say: “F— ICE fuck this administration fuck all of yall who are complicit in ensuring that this happened this is a f—— disgrace.”

Billie Joe Armstrong

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong posted an Instagram video filmed from one of the LA protests, and captioned it with a middle-finger emoji and an ice cube. He added Green Day’s song F— Off as the soundtrack.

Melanie Martinez

Singer Melanie Martinez shared an Instagram post with the message “Abolish Ice” on her Instagram story, as well as a post with advice on how to help immigrant communities in LA.
