FTC Advances, Securing Spot in European Group Stage

Hungarian champions Ferencváros (FTC) defeated Armenian side Noah 4–3 at home in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifying round, advancing with a 6–4 aggregate score. The victory also means that FTC has secured its place in the group stage of a European cup competition for the seventh time in a row – at worst, in the Conference League.

After the high-scoring match, Ferencváros head coach Robbie Keane said: “I am happy with the four goals we scored because, like our fans, I love it when we score as many goals as possible.

Of course, the three goals we conceded could have been avoided, but defense is a team effort, and many people do not understand that it is not just up to our defenders. We also have some new players who still need a little time, but I am sure that the more games we play, the better our teamwork will become.”

The Armenian team’s coach, Sandro Petkovic, spoke appreciatively of his opponents: “Congratulations to Ferencváros, and I wish them every success in the Champions League. I am also proud of my players because they gave their all against a strong opponent. We will learn from our mistakes.”

Ferencváros will continue their Champions League qualifying journey against Bulgarian side Ludogorec in the next round.

The first leg will be played in Razgrad on Wednesday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m., with the return leg taking place on Tuesday, August 12, at 8:15 p.m. at the Groupama Arena in Budapest.

If the Green-Whites advance against Ludogorec, they will at least reach the Europa League group stage, but even the Champions League main draw could be within their reach.
