Frattesi: Inter midfielder requires surgery after Club World Cup

Sunday’s reports confirm that Inter midfielder and Italy international Davide Frattesi is set for a brief spell on the sidelines, as he requires surgery to address a hernia problem that he has been suffering from over the last few weeks.

Frattesi travelled with the rest of the Nerazzurri squad for their underwhelming FIFA Club World Cup campaign in the United States, but like teammate Hakan Calhanoglu, he was unable to feature in any of the club’s four matches through injury.

As per reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Frattesi has been struggling with an inguinal hernia for several weeks, if not months, which now requires surgery to amend.

The club reportedly decided to wait until the off-season to arrange the surgery, with the goal of having Frattesi back, fully fit and raring to go for the 2025-26 season.

It is expected that the former Sassuolo midfielder will require around 20-30 days of recovery after his operation before he resumes training under Cristian Chivu.

The surgery is expected to take place in the city of Milan in the coming days.

Gianluca Di Marzio also adds that Frattesi has recently spoken with head coach Chivu about his role within the team for the upcoming season.

The 25-year-old had been strongly linked with a move away from the club this summer while Simone Inzaghi was still in charge, but the change of head coaches has turned the situation around.

Sunday’s report suggests that Chivu has provided Frattesi with reassurances that he has a key role to play in the Inter midfield next season, and that he is not ‘just’ considered an understudy to compatriot Nicolo Barella.
