Ivanovic’s lawyer, Christian Schertz, confirmed the split in a statement to German newspaper Bild on July 22, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their breakup. Ivanovic has requested that the media respect her privacy moving forward, particularly regarding her personal life, and emphasized her desire for her three children to be left out of the public spotlight.

In recent weeks, reports surfaced that Schweinsteiger had begun dating another woman, sparking speculation about the couple’s troubled marriage. In June 2025, the 2014 World Cup winner was seen with his new partner, which further indicated that his relationship with Ivanovic had ended.

Ivanovic, 37, lives on Mallorca, Spain with their children. Recently, she attended Wimbledon in London. Schweinsteiger, 40, primarily resides in Munich.

Schweinsteiger, known for his long career with Bayern Munich from 2002 to 2015, played for Manchester United from 2015 to 2017 before retiring from professional football with Chicago Fire in the U.S. He captained the Germany national team during Euro 2016, where they were eliminated in the semifinals by France.

Ivanovic, who stood at 1.84 m tall, became world number one in June 2008 at the age of 20. She won the 2008 French Open, defeating Dinara Safina in the final. She also reached the finals of the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open, though she lost to Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova. Ivanovic retired from tennis in 2016 to pursue a career in modeling.

The couple began dating in September 2014, shortly after Schweinsteiger’s World Cup victory. They married on July 12, 2016, in Venice, Italy and have three children: Luca (7), Leon (6) and their youngest, aged 2.

They were once seen as a power couple in the sports world, admired for their achievements and shared roles in high-profile brand endorsements.
