Fire breaks out in HK’s Central business district

HONG KONG – A fire broke out at a commercial building’s scaffolding structure in Hong Kong’s Central business district on Saturday afternoon.

The blaze, which originated at 4:24 pm at a rear lane of Chinachem Tower on Connaught Road Central, was upgraded to No 3 alarm at 4:36 pm, according to a government announcement.

Plumes of thick smoke were seen billowing from the fire scene. Firemen were using two jets and mobilizing two breathing apparatus teams to douse the fire, the statement said.

Local media reported that three people were trapped in elevator and an explosion was heard.

No casualties were reported till 5:30 pm when this report was filed.
