Final Fantasy XVI Might Get an Xbox Release

Final Fantasy XVI could be on its way to Xbox consoles, based on a comment from producer Naoki Yoshida. While a PC port is already in development, this is the first hint of the 2023 action RPG coming to other consoles.

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida hints at a possible Xbox port

Noisy Pixel caught up with Yoshida and DLC director Takeo Kujiraoka at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts. Noisy Pixel asked them how they feel about saying goodbye to the game’s characters after the Rising Tide DLC launches next month. Yoshida explained that the team still has more work ahead of it. He revealed that Square Enix plans to bring Final Fantasy XVI to additional platforms.

“It’s not over in the sense that we have the PC version,” the Final Fantasy XVI producer explained. “Once the PC version is released, we’re thinking about hopefully moving to other platforms as well… So, there is a sense that while the project is still going, there is not that sense of being sad and having to leave them yet. But I’m pretty sure that once everything is released and we’ve moved on to the next project, that would be the time where it kind of hits us that, ‘Oh, it’s really it’s over?’”

To be clear, Yoshida never explicitly said Final Fantasy XVI is on its way to Xbox. However, that seems like the obvious interpretation of Yoshida’s words, as the Switch likely doesn’t have the hardware for it. The eventual Switch 2 might also get a version somewhere down the line. However, the Xbox Series X/S seems like the most likely candidate.
