“It was the better option. There were many offers, but I chose the Italian champions,” De Bruyne told Corriere della Sera.

“They play in the Champions League, and Conte is a magnificent coach. When you are young, you decide for yourself, but now I have also asked my kids. The oldest is 10; it’s an important stage of his growth.”

KDB was asked whether he’d prefer winning the Serie A title or the Champions League this season and his reply was somewhat surprising.

“It’s all difficult! I’ve never won the Scudetto, and I’ve had the fortune to win the Champions League,” he said.

“It would be great to win the Italian title for the first time.”

Who are the most dangerous rivals in the race for the Scudetto?

“Inter have more consistency than others, and they have quality,” noted De Bruyne.

“I faced them in the Champions League Final, but several teams can compete at a high level. Milan can be dangerous too, despite their false start. They have the advantage of focusing on the league only.

De Bruyne’s compatriot Romelu Lukaku has suffered a thigh injury and will remain out of action for more than three months.

“It’s a heavy loss for us, but a great team must be able to find solutions when someone gets injured. Others must be ready,” said De Bruyne.

“Lucca can take advantage of this opportunity. He can grow, score goals and become important.”

De Bruyne scored on his Serie A debut on Saturday, contributing to Napoli’s 2-0 win against Sassuolo.

Their next game is against Cagliari at the Stadio Maradona on Saturday, August 30.
